Meet The Quarterfinalists

Carolyn Creekmore, 52, of Dallas, Texas

Carolyn has equaled her best finish in a USGA championship by reaching the quarterfinals - which she as did at the 1997 and 1999 U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur. Noted as a long hitter, she qualified for match play with a 36-hole total of 155, the lowest among the eight remaining in the field. A self-employed research consultant, she raises horses as a special interest. Her grandfather, Steve Creekmore, was undefeated as the starting quarterback at the University of Arkansas . Winner of the 1995 Texas State Amateur.

 

Elizabeth Haines, 56, of Gladwyne, Pa.

Liz has played in USGA championships dating back to five U.S. Women's Amateurs. Her best USGA finish was being a semifinalist at the 2001 Senior Women's Amateur. She is one of the better amateurs in the Mid-Atlantic region and can claim three holes-in-one at Merion ( Pa. ) Golf Club. Outside of playing golf, Liz enjoys music, reading and gardening. She has a touch of Merion with her this week as her caddie is Tom Murphy, a Merion caddie and Harvard graduate.

 

Ann Lahey, 52, of Kentfield, Calif.

Ann has won two extra-holes matches to reach the quarterfinal. In her third round match, she scored an eagle 2 on Pasatiempo's famed 16 th hole to take the lead in her match. In her second round match she rallied late to win as well. She is playing in her third Senior Women's Amateur

 

Martha Lang, 51, of Mandeville, La.

Martha is looking to claim her second USGA championship - she won the 1988 U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur. She also got close to winning a USGA championship before then, reaching the semifinals of the 1969 Girls' Junior (lost to Hollis Stacy) and the semifinals of the 1991 Women's Amateur (lost to Heidi Voorhees). Her husband, Ken, is her caddie for the week. The highlight of her amateur golf career to date is playing on the 1992 USA Curtis Cup team. She is a four-time Louisiana Women's Amateur champion, lastly winning in 2003. This is her first Senior Women's Amateur.

 

Reggie Parker, 58, of Hobe Sound, Fla.

Reggie has played in seven Senior Women's Amateurs, but this will be her best finish. She is a retired realtor with three children and seven grandchildren. A talented player for many years, she can claim titles up and down the East coast. She won the Rhode Island Women's Amateur (2001), the New England Women's Amateur (2004) and the Vermont State Senior Women's Amateur (2004). She was born in New York City .

 

Marianne Towersey, 53, Newport Beach, Calif.

Marianne lost in the semifinal round of the 2003 Senior Women's Amateur. She has been a semifinalist at a Girls' Junior (1968) and a quarterfinalist at a Women's Amateur (1967) as well. She upset a well-known JoAnne Carner in her first match of the 1967 Girls' Junior when she was just 16. She serves as a high school golf coach, but keeps fit herself by running about three miles several times a week. She also enjoys surfing, skiing and gardening. She is a 1973 graduate of nearby Stanford University . Her caddie for the week is club member Bruce Black, co-general chairman of the championship.

 

Toni Weisner, 57, Ft. Worth, Texas

Toni has had a lifetime of near misses when it comes to taking home a USGA trophy. She was runner-up at the 1997 and 2001 Senior Women's Amateur. In 2001, she lost to four-time champion Carol Semple Thompson . But in her third round match, she edged past Semple Thompson, winning on the 20 th hole. She also has twice been a quarterfinalist at the Women's Mid-Amateur (2002 and 2003). Her caddie is her husband, Robert, whom she met on the first tee of a public golf course back home. She has made 10 holes-in-one in her accomplished playing career. She has won the Texas Women's Amateur five times, lastly in 2003. She even brought home the 1997 British Senior Women's Amateur title.

 

Sandy Woodruff, 55, Santa Cruz, Calif.

Sandy is the reigning women's club champion and a long-time member at Pasatiempo Golf Club . She has never lost in a club championship match, winning the crown each of the eight times she has played. Her best finish in a USGA championship came in 1999 when she lost to Carol Semple Thompson in the semifinal round of the Senior Women's Amateur. She has advanced to this point with easy wins. Her caddie is three-time men's club champ Bob Green, who is also co-general chairman for the championship.
