Santa Cruz, Calif. - Carolyn Creekmore, 52, of Dallas, Texas, and Liz Haines, 56, of Gladwyne, Pa., each won two matches Wednesday to advance to Thursday's 18-hole final match at the USGA Senior Women's Amateur at Pasatiempo Golf Club.

Creekmore beat Toni Wiesner of Ft. Worth, Texas, in her semifinal match of this age 50-and-older championship, 2 up. Creekmore won three holes in a four-hole stretch over the demanding 5,790-yard layout to take a 3-up lead after the 13 th hole. She holed a 12-foot birdie putt on the last hole to close the match. She easily defeated Ann Lahey of Kentfield, Calif., in her morning quarterfinal match, 7 and 6.

Haines won holes 14 and 16 to overtake Martha Lang of Mandeville, La., and win her see-saw semifinal match, 2 up. She closed out Marianne Towersey of Newport Beach, Calif., in her morning match, 3 and 2.

"I am playing better than ever," said the long-hitting Creekmore, a reinstated amateur who carries the nickname Creekie. "This is so exciting I can't even tell you. I just know I'm going to get to play tomorrow."

A horse-raiser with her own consulting business, Creekmore is playing in her third Senior Women's Amateur. Her previous best in a USGA championship was twice reaching the quarterfinals of the U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur (1997 and 1999). She also won the 1997 Texas Women's Amateur.

"I have been waiting a long time," said Haines of reaching a USGA final. "I am thrilled. Advancing in a USGA championship is always your highest goal as an amateur. To win would mean a tremendous amount."

This is Haines' 29 th USGA championship, covering more than 30 years. She was a semifinalist at the 2001 Senior Women's Amateur, but never was a finalist until now.

The Senior Women's Amateur is one of 13 national championships conducted annually by the United States Golf Association, 10 of which are strictly for amateurs.
