Mrs. Constance Guthrie, 50, of Spokane, Washington, shot 227 for 54 holes and won by two strokes over Mrs. Janice Calin, of Edina, Minnesota, at the Tacoma Country and Golf Club, in Tacoma, Washington.

The first-round lead was shared by Mrs. Lois Hodge, of Los Altos, California, and Mrs. Louise Wilson, of Louisville, Kentucky, both of whom shot 73, two strokes better than Mrs. Natalie Gamble, of Grosse Pointe Shores, Michigan, and Mrs. Alberta Bower, of Charleston, South Carolina. Mrs. Guthrie shot 76 with an eagle 3 on the 18th hole.

Mrs. Guthrie moved strongly into the picture with 73 in the second round and shared the lead with Mrs. Calin. A 70 boosted Mrs. Calin into the tie and equalled the Championship's record low round, set in 1979 by Mrs. Paul Dye, Jr. At the end of nine holes of the final round, Mrs. Guthrie held a two stroke lead, and despite some shaky play on the fifth and sixth holes, both par-3s, still led by four after 10.

On the 11th, a par 3, Mrs. Guthrie's tee shot plugged deep in a bunker, and when she made 5, Mrs. Calin pulled even. Mrs. Calin then four-putted the 12th hole and Mrs. Guthrie went ahead by two once again. Mrs. Dorothy Porter, four times the Senior Women's Amateur champion, finished third, at 231, tied with Mrs. Wilson. Mrs. Gamble was fifth, at 233.

Mrs. Porter was the Group C (ages 60 through 64) champion; Mrs. Gamble won Group B (55 through 59); and Mrs. Helen M. Johnson, of Tacoma, Washington, won Group D (65 and over).
