Mrs. Smith became the only 1964 USGA Champion to defend a title
successfully when she won her second straight Senior Women's Amateur
Championship. Her score was 242 at the Exmoor Country Club, Highland
Park, Ill., an improvement of five strokes over her winning total
in 1964.
In second place was Mrs. John S. Haskell, Titusville, Pa., with
245. The Champion and the runner-up, paired together on the final
round, were all even with three holes to play. The critical hole
was the 16th, a par-4, where Mrs. Smith made a birdie as Mrs. Haskell
went one over par.
In age class competition, Mrs. Smith won Class A (50-54); Mrs.
Frank D. Mayer, Glencoe, Ill., won Class B (55-59) with 249; and
Mrs. E.L. Cooley, Winnetka, Ill., won Class C (60 and over) with
257
