Mrs. Mark A. Porter, of Cinnaminson, N.J., became the first
Women's Amateur Champion (1949) to win the Senior Women's
Championship. Mrs. Porter shot 75-77-78-230 for 54 holes at
the Dunes Golf and Beach Club, in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
She birdied the 18th hole, a par 5, to win by one stroke
over Mrs. Paul Dye, Jr., of Delray Beach, Fla. Mrs. Dye had
rounds of 79-77-75-231. They were the only players to break
80 for all three rounds.
Mrs. Phillip J. Cudone, of Myrtle Beach, was third with
rounds 81-76-78-235. Mrs. Cudone won the Group 2 competition.
Mrs. Robert MacLaurin, the defending Champion, from Savannah,
Ga., finished fourth with a score of 236. The entry was 120.
