Mrs. Cecile Maclaurin, of Savannah, Ga., the only player
in the field to break 80 in every round, won the Championship
over the Dunes Course of the Monterey Peninsula Country Club,
Pebble Beach, Calif.
Playing in her first Senior Women's Championship, Mrs. Maclaurin
scored 78-75-77-230 for the 54 holes and won by seven strokes
over Mrs. Lyle Bowman, from San Rafael, Calif.
Mrs. Wayne Rutter, of Williamsville, N. Y., runner-up in
1972 and 1973, finished third at 240. The 1975 Champion, Mrs.
Albert Bower, of Pelham, N.Y., was fifth with 246. Mrs. Philip
J. Cudone, who won the Championship five times (1968 through
1972) and was runner-up twice, finished in fourth place.
Mrs. Bowman led by three strokes after the first round with
a par 75, Mrs. Maclaurin was second at 78, and Mrs. Justine
Cushing, 1974 Champion, was third at 79. Mrs. Maclaurin took
the lead after the second round with 153, while Mrs. Bowman
added an 80 to her opening 75 for 155.
Mrs. Rutter moved into third place at 157. There was no
change in the top three the final day. Mrs. Maclaurin shot
a 77, while Mrs. Bowman had 82 and Mrs. Rutter scored 83.
One hundred-sixty-one players filed entries-a record; the
field, however, is limited to 120, based on handicaps.
