Mrs. Philip Cudone, of Myrtle Beach, S.C. became the first player ever to win a USGA Championship four consecutive years. Mrs. Cudone scored 77-81-78-236 at the Sea Island Golf Club, Sea Island, Ga., to win by one stroke over Mrs. Ann Gregory, of Chicago.

Mrs. Gregory's scores were 77-82-78-237. Four other players had won three. They were Willie Anderson (Open, 1903-04-05). Mrs. Glenna Collett Vare (Women's Amateur, 1928-29-30), Miss Virginia Van Wie (Women's Amateur, 1932-33-34), and Miss Hollis Stacy (Girls' Junior, 1969-70-71).

Mrs. Cudone led Mrs. Gregory by one stroke going into the final round and birdied the par 3 third. Mrs. Gregory went one over on the hole and Mrs. Cudone's lead was then three strokes.

It remained the same until the 17th where Mrs. Cudone bogied and Mrs. Gregory birdied, cutting the lead to one stroke again. Mrs. Cudone got down in two from 35 feet on the home hole to win.
