Mrs. Smith became the only 1964 USGA Champion to defend a
title successfully when she won her second straight Senior
Women's Amateur Championship. Her score was 242 at the Exmoor
Country Club, Highland Park, Ill., an improvement of five
strokes over her winning total in 1964.
In second place was Mrs. John S. Haskell, Titusville, Pa.,
with 245. The Champion and the runner-up, paired together
on the final round, were all even with three holes to play.
The critical hole was the 16th, a par-4, where Mrs. Smith
made a birdie as Mrs. Haskell went one over par.
In age class competition, Mrs. Smith won Class A (50-54);
Mrs. Frank D. Mayer, Glencoe, Ill., won Class B (55-59) with
249; and Mrs. E.L. Cooley, Winnetka, Ill., won Class C (60
and over) with 257
